Felphinium

The birth flower for July is the delphinium, also known as larkspurs. They're gorgeously bright flowers that brighten up many gardens in early summer. The name came from the Ancient Greeks who thought the shape of the new flower bud looked like a dolphin's nose. Delphiniams are said to symbolise joy, warmth and fun. Water lilies aren't typically used in bouquets, they make lovely garden or pond additions.

Floriography

If you were born in July and have the delphinium as your birth flower we'll be willing to bet that you're the class clown of the group. The language of flowers — also known as floriography — was popular in the 18th and 19th century. Long before email, texting, instant messages or even phone calls, people used flowers to communicate. November's birth flower

November's birth flower is the bright and cheery chrysanthemum, which symbolizes loyalty and honesty. In December, the narcissus is symbolic of good wishes, hope and wealth Holly is a convenient birth plant for December. Larkspur is the classic cottage garden plant, best at the back of a mixed border. Water lilies are often used in ponds to deter the growth of algae and to shade and cool the water for resident fish and frogs. Nymphaea alba look exotic, yet are surprisingly hardy, flower for six months a year, and cover up to nine square metres of water.

The water lily

The water lily is one of the two birth flowers for July and is associated with rebirth and enlightenment in many cultures. It is also a symbol of love, which is why it is named after the flower of the same name as the Queen's favourite flower, the water lilies.
